any php.ini vars can be set in an .htaccess doc
.htaccess
php_value session.use_cookies 0
this will force sessions to no use cookies and therore transverse through
any dir you like.

From my knowledge Sessions (eg sessionID) as I have them are being sent by
PHP as a cookie to track individulas across the 'stateless' internet. When a
cookie is sent it can have it's acess restricted to a certain domain or even
directory and even a life span. I am presuming that these restrictions are
set in the way that the php.ini file is configured or possible in some
undocumented feature of session_start().
as for your comment of the state of the browser I presume you mean weather
or not they accept cookies ...well this is not the point that I am worried
about as this is a intranet development that I am playing with and I have
control over the browsers that will be acessing the site and there
configeration.

i think sessions are independent of the directory on the server. they are
only dependent on the state of
the browser.
sounds correct ?

Subject: [PHP] Sessions and sub directories
I curently have sessions working fine within the directory in which I
start them... but I need them to be still active when I move down a
directory.
What I have is a directory of pages for a user and a sub direcory eg
/administrator/ with the maintenence pages. When a autherised user logs in
the session data is stored with the user name and pass and they are
displayed with a linkt to the file /administrator/default.php when the page
is run it again checks for autherisation rights on the session data ...but
It no loger exists and they are "header'd" back down to the general users
area where the session data is again found.
I'm guessing this has to do with the way the cookies are set when sent
but I do not have access to the ISP to reconfigure thier php.ini files or
any thing.
Any help apreciated.
