Thanks for the message. I could use a drop down menu of states in my form, but with 50 states it makes for a long and awkward menu for the user. I thought there might be a more elegant solution with PHP, but maybe I'll just stick with easy. I do have a database of userids, which is why I'd like to check that a new one being submitted is unique. I just don't know what PHP code I should use to make the check. I did go to the zend site and found more e-mail validations scripts. Couldn't find the article you referenced though. Best regards, Vicki
