two combo boxes

I would like to do what they do on the HP printer driver download page.
From the first combo box I select a type of printer.
The second combo box appears and is dynamically loaded with the printer
models that match the type I just selected.
Does this have to be done with javascript or can sessions help somehow?
How to make this happen in PHP4?
