Image preview in PHP

Hi list,
I need to build a image preview in a publish system and I'm looking for
ideas in how to implement this. The goal is, the user chooses a image (file
field) and before they fill out the rest of the form to submit, a preview of
the selected image appears. I've done it with javascript, but the file is
running in my computer, but now it will run from a apache web server and the
javascript trick won't work. Does anyone have some idea??? All the system
(inserts, selects and updates)

is already designed in PHP 4.0.6 and Mysql.
