In Win 2K you can tell it to reload the service if it fails during boot.
Open Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
Locate the mysql server and choose properties. Tell it on the first
failure, to try agian.
I had this problem too, turns out the activity on my system during boot-up
was too heavy and it was trying to load before the system was ready.
