Ring them bells... :-)
Thanks for the ideas and we will look into those others. If there is a chat
program with such a call feature already built in, that would be terrific.
Just so other conversation won't be wasted, in discussing the means to set up
such a *personal* calling network, the consensus is that it *might* be done in
the following manner and it need not be limited to a chat room use..
This will advertize that you are on line so friends or chat rooms might call
you. Only those people you wish to call you will be able to. We would like
to do this if its workable and not already done. Please offer suggestions.
We think a php action page could be initiated each time a 'member' was on line,
which would write to their own ".plan" file, for the duration of the time they
were online. This might be done every minute or two. It would place their dns
number (pgp or otherwise encrypted), and the current gmt time, into the .plan
file. When they went off line, the time would not be refreshed. When it
became non current it would indicate they were not on line or perhaps in dnd
mode. That do not disturb and other features may even be incorporated into the
.plan information.
If a visitor to the chat room wished for company, they would click a button to
activate an action page to call other people. Perhaps it could be made active
whenever there was a nickname listed in the room. This page would read a list
of (subscribed/members/etc.) domain/user names to be searched for. It would
use finger or some other method not yet decided. (What's the best way?)
When it found someone who was on line, it would call them with a .wav or pop up
to their browser. How would that be done?? Big hang up right now for me. I
know nothing about that sending a pop up window to a browser kind of thing..
Is this being done? Is it feasible? Any thoughts?
Thanks.
