Objects size ??

Hi. How can I do to define a class with static sized variables, so that I could write "fwrite($file, $object, ??$size??) and fread(...)" ? Now I'm forced to add a "\n" after each string, so : "fputs($file, $string) and fgets($file, $string, 999)" but it's pretty boring. I'd like to do, for example : "fseek($file, $index * sizeof(class X))" I need a solution quickly ! Thank you...
