As others have said, it sounds like you're trying to do
quite alot of including, and nested includes, and all
around perhaps too many lines of code on each page.
Can you try putting these files in a RAM disk instead? I'd
guess that the OS probably caches these files, but perhaps it's
too much for your cache. How much RAM is on the machine in question?
32,000 lines of code in most web-oriented languages is a bit much.
Anyone tried to run 32,000 lines of ASP and see how fast that goes? .5
seconds to load would be pretty quick. It's all relative to your coding
strength on a platform, I realize, but I had a 1500 line page in ASP
which was just a bear to run. I was lazy to start, so after optimizing
and pruning it, got it down to ~900 lines. it was still a bear running.
I can't imagine 32,000 lines of code running optimally in ASP, PHP,
ColdFusion or Perl.
In short, I don't think your problem lies with choosing PHP so much as
trying to fit too much into it.
