this is what I've got for that section:
[mail function]
SMTP = localhost ;for win32 only
sendmail_from = me@localhost.com ;for win32 only
sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i ;for unix only, may supply
arguments as well (default is 'sendmail -t -i')
if your problem is caused by anything else, then I can't help you there,
maybe someone???
