I'm inclined to think that today they see the <HTML> tag and 'think': "So, we assumed HTML anyway."True! I suppose that it's easier to NOT code them to look for <html> tags (I think IE uses the filename extension, actually), but it couldn't be a huge addition to the code. Still, my biggest hangup with browsers is inconsistent CSS support. My page looks completely different in IE5.1 Mac, IE 5 Windows, and IE 6 Windows... and I have to say that IE 5.1 Mac renders it in the "correct" way, not version 6 as you might expect. (I think.)
