Directory Listing

I was needing to write a script that will take a directory and then
I guess get a listing of all directories under that directory and I guess
maybe stick it into an array so I can search the array for a certain
pattern and return the results of that search. Can someone send me some
code on how to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
