I had this problem while running PHP under windows. I solved (well,
rounded :) the problem with $SCRIPT_NAME (if I remember it right) which
gives the very same result.

Is your PHP install >= version 4.1.0 ?
You can test with a call to phpinfo();
If your version is less than 4.1.0, try the global variable $PHP_SELF
instead.
