site map function..

I'm trying to write some code that will look at a table of records, and output a 'tree' of those records, based on a parent/child relationship betweent their respective record id numbers. Anyone written anything like this they would be willing to share? I'm up against a deadline, and I'm having a brain cramp trying to get my brain around the recursive aspect of doing it.
