sockets and flush()

i have a script that makes a socket connection about halfway through the page. nothing on the page prints until the socket operation is finished, even if i call flush() prior to the socket operation. does anyone now of a way to force PHP to output the buffer prior to executing the socket code? thanks! dietrich dietrich@ganx4.com dietrich.ganx4.com
