ugh browscap problem

I hate to ask this, but I am getting nowhere with it. I have downloaded a browscap.ini file and put it in /usr/local/lib/ along with my php3.ini file. I have added the appropriate line to the php3.ini file. When I run phpinfo(); it displays the correct path under configuration for browscap which is /usr/local/lib/browscap.ini. When I cut and paste directly from this window and prefix it with a 'more' i.e. more /usr/local/lib/browscap.ini it outputs the file perfectly. Yet under the the extensions section for browscap it says 'No additional information'. I am still using 3.0.12 on this machine. Any ideas? Thanks! -k
