Remove double quotes from string

Hi,
I just switched from mSQL/lite to MySQL/php. I like it. But here is my
problem. I want to remove double quotes from a string.
I have tried:
$quoteText = strtr($quoteText, """, " ");
$quoteText = str_replace(""", " ", $quoteText);
--> Parsing error, obviously.
$quoteText = strtr($quoteText, "\"", " ");
$quoteText = str_replace("\"", " ", $quoteText);
--> No error but keeps the "\" in the new string.
Any suggestion?
