Hello,
I'm having problems compiling PHP-4.0.1pl2. Here's the error message along with
the last 30 lines of 'config.log':
**** snippets ****
checking whether to include zlib support... yes
checking for gzgets in -lz... no
configure: error: Zlib module requires zlib >= 1.0.9.
<hostname> $ tail -30 config.log
main () {
/* Are we little or big endian? From Harbison&Steele. */
union
{
long l;
char c[sizeof (long)];
} u;
u.l = 1;
exit (u.c[sizeof (long) - 1] == 1);
}

Can someone give me a clue as to what's happening??? I have zlib v1.1.3
installed in /usr/local.
TIA
