SID is missing in 4.2.0

I am so far unable to use the var SID. I have determined the the script thinks it is defing but
empty.

echo "'".SID."'";
echo "<br>";
echo defind("SID");
echo "<br>";
echo session_id();
?>
Try this script. SID is empty but defined. I can alternately call session_id but I have many sites
that use SID.
