Make $team an array.
$team[0][1] = "blah";
$team[0][2] = "bla";
$team[0][3] = "bl";
$team[1][1] = "b";
$team[1][2] = "bah";
So, if $g = 1, and $r = 2...
<?=$team[$g][$r]?>
Would produce:
bah
