Current URL is http or https?

Hi,
I'm trying to find a way to determine whether a clients browser current url is prefixed by http or https. However, I cannot seem to find the right predefined variable to give me this information. Basically, I want the same thing that HTTP_REFERER provides, but for the _current_ page.
Any ideas?
