using globals in require()

Hi,
I have troubles using previously defined globals in a require()ed file .
exemple:
<?
require("globals.php3");
require("IB_fcts.php3");
//valid script follows ..
the globals defined in globals.php3 are not defined while executing functions in IB_fcts.php3
of course in these function I used :
global $var_defined_in_globalphp3;
but the variable is set to 0.
anyone can help ?
