Backports 207dd1d23f7 (GH-22480), 250f138329e and 9d6fd4fd98a from master, as suggested in GH-24549.
Without them watch_006 is xfail on PHP-8.5 and on 32-bit PHP-8.4, and it passes on some 8.5 builds,
which is the XPASS warning in the report.
