Weird build problem

I just made a fresh checkout, and found I'm getting link failures over a
missing gtkwidget_ce when I build ext/libglade.
This would be less weird if my previous checkout had had the same problem.
A full diff -u of that old, working checkout against CVS doesn't explain it;
it only has the treemodel bits and pieces and Tom's extension in it.
It _should_ be something to do with Andrei's fixes over the circular
dependency, except that I took those on board at the time.
Any clues, anyone?
