Steph,

No. Let me explain:
PEAR packages are just PHP code. This code may depend on other packages
and have some other requirements (e.g. only php version > 5.1 or pear
installer version > 1.4.2).
Every PEAR package has to have a package.xml file which contains the
name, description, author(s), maintainer(s) and so on - and the
dependencies. So when installing, pear will either tell you that some
deps are missing or it automatically installs them for you when wished.
Now you also can depend on PECL packages which can be even compiled
automatically. Just php-gtk doesn't fit in that schema; it's not in
pecl. I just asked Greg if he could do a "special case" for php-gtk to
check if the php-gtk is loaded or can be loaded (loaded for php-gtk1),
so that we can have deps on php-gtk.
