Building from Source: generator not generating gen_*

I've tried to build from the latest cvs source several times over the past few months on my FreeBSD system. I've managed to do a successful buildconf and configure, but make always exits with an error. The compiler complains that it can't find gen_atk.c. After doing a little digging, I found out that all the gen_* files in the ext/gtk+ directory are not being created. I have very little experience with the make utility on UNIX systems, so I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this.
