No mystery - memory_limit didn't used to work at all under doze, but does now.
(Yes set it to 0.)

Subject: Re: [PHP-GTK-DEV] Compiling and Memory Limits
Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted The person that reported the problem has their memory_limit set to 512M normally. We should probably check that we aren't reducing it.Yep 64M is 67108864 bytes. So we are reducing the memory_limit for people who have it set greater than 64M. The funny part is why 64M is proving to be insufficient for the reporter, while so many of us have been compiling it successfully for so long. Also, is there a great deal of harm in setting it to 0?AFAIK, 0 is not a valid value for memory_limit. It will just default back to 8M. I guess an immediate solution would be to increase the value to 128M in the script. The value is valid only for the generator script, so the memory_limit will just revert back to its original php.ini value when the script is done.
