Afternoon, First of all, an observation - the standard naming for php extensions is php_<extension name>.dll, however php-gtk2.dll uses a hyphen. And all the php gtk extensions use underscores. Was this done purposely or just kind of missed in the confusion? I think it might be a smart idea to rename it to php_gtk2.dll I'm about halfway finished with the windows msi installer for php-gtk. Currently it installs the gtk runtime, a basic php runtime, the php-gtk2.dll, and registers a .phpg type so double clicking runs the file with php-gtk (the reasoning for choosing phpg is it's short, sweet, and won't conflict with winbinder which uses .phpw) It's been lots of fun (hear the sarcasm?) The current source is located at http://callicore.net/php-gtk2/installer The installer is written with wix (I'm also using wixedit - which is a decent gui for wix files) wix is open source (yes, ms really open sourced it) and the files currently use the stable version 2 - the new php windows installer was a great help for creating this installer The installer is getting pretty large merely from the fact that it's three installers in one...I'm aiming for the following 1. A complete gtk+ runtime (plus widget extensions, theme engines, localization files, pixbuf loaders, immodules, gtk extension dependencies such as aspell and enchant and all the other assorted gtk fun) 2. A complete php runtime - with only the cli sapis (php extensions, pecl extensions, registering php mimetypes) 3. Php-gtk itself (the main dll, php-gtk extensions, phpg double click & mimetype registration, php-cli.ini creation/update with proper extensions enabled) Now - so far the installer doesn't mess with environment variables or currently installed php versions. This is so the php-gtk install is "self-contained" and can be put on a computer with a webserver running or gaim installed, for example, without mucking anything up. A self contained gtk install seems to be the rule on windows. Also because it's an msi it has repair and change capabilities - so you can install it one way and add locale files and/or additional extensions very easily. I'd appreciate some feedback on what people would like the installer to do (and someone to make some nicer bitmaps and .ico files) Steph, I know we talked about bootstrapping a php ini file editor (and adding a start menu link to it as well) so windows users wouldn't be digging into the files and get lost when trying to edit their ini file. This is very easily accomplished, but someone would have to write the editor - ideally a one file app that only needs basic php and the php-gtk2.dll extension. (Theoretically we can just go the apache route and add a shortcut to the ini file in the start menu instead of bundling an application) Also, should I add in the ability to install the demos? What about php or php-gtk documentation .chm files? (Do the php-gtk docs do chm?) I'll keep you updated on the progress of this monster, I'll try to get it done before the beta release. The last point is the msi currently only works on NT+ systems (it's installing the 2.10 dlls and it does check and throws an error if your OS is 95/98 or ME) - we'll probably want a specialized separate version with only 2.6 items and the last win95/98/ME supported php5 but I'm not certain if an .msi will be the way to go in that situation. Any thoughts? Opinions? I'll be needing some guinea pigs to test the installer, give me a mail if you're interested.
