I certainly don't want us to be the sole cause of a holdup on the beta, or a complication in the overall development process.
Hey Madeleine! No, it's not just you - it's more that you're the only PHP-GTK developer that I know has a large number of win98 end users. You weren't the only one to mention their existence when talk of withdrawing support first came up in PHP circles though, and although PHP itself has since gone ahead and withdrawn that support, I think it's probably better to have PHP-GTK 2 beta/PHP 5.2.0/GTK+ 2.6.10 available in back-compatible mode than to drop everyone in it without warning. 'Specially as it's been a loooooooooong while since the alpha; there are a lot of fixes between alpha and beta. We can put a big fat warning on this release (as if it isn't enough that there are two options.... again...!) and on the downloads page, saying that support for win98 will be dropped before the next PHP-GTK release. But unlike PHP, we don't have a 'last good release' for win98 users at present, just a very frustrating one. It's not a good advert for the project :-\ There are also plenty of things we could put on the downloads page that will give devs ammunition when it comes to pushing for upgrades at work... - Steph

Hey Andrei, Elizabeth has stuff to go in I still need to check,
otherwise we risk
it not working under Win98 (all Madeleine's clients
down at one
stroke). She also is working on an installer, but I
don't know how far
she's got with that. We also want to have two win32 releases for much the
same reason - one
Elizabeth can roll using the faster non-ZTS stuff
Edin makes available
these days, and one I can roll using MSVC6/ZTS that
will work on older
machines. I'm heading out to Norway at the end of the first
week in June for a
few days, but otherwise around - just busy (when
not?)

I think it's time to release the beta, since we're
doing pretty well
on API coverage and people are clamoring for a new
release.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to do this until at
least June 14th,
since I will be far away without any Internet
access. Anyone up for
making a beta release? -Andrei -- PHP-GTK Development Mailing List
