I know why it's happening. And it's not something that's fixed easily, if at all.
Basically, the problem is that the extension is loaded via dl() instead of through .ini mechanism. I talked to Andi Gutmans from Zend and their position is that dl() should be deprecated completely because it has many inherent problems with shutdown mechanism and so on. This discussion has come up multiple times on PHP internals mailing list, but with no result.
So, the short answer is - don't use dl(). Whether we can prevent people from doing so - I'm not sure.

Done now, and please re-run buildconf to pick it up.Compiling worked with out a problem but I am still getting the seg fault when I close the fileselection test. I don't get this error when I run the gtk or hello, but that may be because I get another error about loading shared libraries. I will save that for another email though. gdb output is attached. Could this be some problem related to my computer? A problem with my Gtk installation or something?
