I have successfully installed php-gtk-0.5.1-win32 on my W2KSP2 machine, and want to thank everyone
for their help and patience with my struggle. Several people have emailed me asking if I had
resolved this yet, so here is a quick summary of what I got to work (due credit to Steph as well as
Markus for their work here):
1. I started from scratch after trying to kluge this thing together, so begin with a clean slate and
things will be easy.
2. Install all files from the .zip file php-gtk-0.5.1-win32 into C:\php4 (do not allow any default
paths to be used as it will try to stick some things in winnt\system32)
3. Create a new php.ini file from notepad (be sure to rename the extension from .txt) and save it in
C:\php4. This file should contain the following (THANKS STEPH!), and nothing more:
include_path = .;
error_reporting = E_ALL;
php-gtk.extensions = php_gtk_libglade.dll, php_gtk_sqpane.dll
4. Once you have saved the newly edited ini file, check your directory structure to be sure you have
the right files. It should look like this:
C:\php4>dir
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is XXXX-XXXX
Directory of C:\php4
04/30/2002 09:11a <DIR> .
04/30/2002 09:11a <DIR> ..
04/27/2002 04:05a 24,576 php.exe
04/30/2002 09:11a 110 php.ini
04/27/2002 04:05a 24,576 php4isapi.dll
04/27/2002 04:04a 1,077,248 php4ts.dll
04/26/2002 04:58p 507,904 php_gtk.dll
04/27/2002 04:05a 53,248 php_gtk_libglade.dll
04/27/2002 04:05a 69,632 php_gtk_sqpane.dll
01/14/2002 01:55p 57,344 php_win.exe
04/30/2002 07:58a <DIR> test
5. Notice I placed the example files included with the zip in a directory named "test",
and then try the following:
C:\php4>php -f test\hello.php
Hello World!
A nice little GTK window should pop up for you, saying "Hello, World!", and you are now
officially in the minority of an incredible way to create standalone PHP programs. After 2 solid
days of struggle I finally made it, and if I can so can you :)
6. If you are using PHP with Apache, well, we started with a clean slate right? So there isn't
an installation of PHP available to interact with your Apache server. Download the latest version
from php.net (4.2.0), or use 4.1.2 if you like. Install this to C:\php and rename your
php.ini.recommended (or the other) to php.ini. Don't move this ini file to winnt! Other than
that follow the installation directions provided with your php distribution.
7. After this, if you had Apache already configured, and C:\php was your original install dir for
php, your httpd.conf file shouldn't need any editing. Unless you were hellbent on using 2.0.35
and uninstalled your older version of Apache (who would have done that? cough, cough, lol)
that's it, and if I missed something, will the elders please correct me quickly?
