Hello Jp, > So, unless there's a nice tutorial out there to help lower the learning > curve and in fact encourage users to submit work to the manual, > shouldn't it be better to forward users to PHP-GTK-DOC? Hopefully they > will find more in-depth details there - or somone willing to go on about > XML and whatnot :P I've already started a tutorial about the docs: http://cweiske.dyndns.org/en/html/tutorials/tutorials.doccing.html You'll find a description of how to how to check out, and how to build the manual. Since you use FC4, you should have all required tools for that. The sections "translating the manual" and "writing documentation" have no content yet, but I'm willing and will do today or some days later this week. One thing which is not in the compilation description: There is a "mini demo manual" in file manual/demo_manual.xml. This is a complete manual for testing things. You can compile it with > ./gen_manual.sh en demo which should take < 5 seconds only (because it's that little). So it's ideal for newbies to test something. As I haven't written the "writing documentation" yet, you only can look at the parts already written and learn from them. I suggest GtkButton (manual/en/reference/gtk/gtkbutton.xml) and GtkIconView (manual/en/reference/gtk/gtkiconview.xml) to learn from. If you do have questions, ask at the php-gtk-doc list. We'd be happy to get a new manual contributor - there is much work to do. -- Regards/MfG, Christian Weiske
