Hi Daniel,
Well, that function's definitely in Christian's build of the PHP-GTK 2 docs:
http://cweiske.dyndns.org/en/html/gtk/gtk.gtkalignment.method.set_padding.html
and in Simon's:
http://www.phpshell.net/php-gtk-doc/gtk/gtk.gtkalignment.method.set_padding.html
- so it seems you're looking in the wrong place. The docs on gtk.php.net
refer to PHP-GTK 1 (which doesn't have that function), because PHP-GTK 2
hasn't been released yet. Confusing, I know, but hopefully not for much
longer.
If you need to check quickly whether a method is available in your copy of
PHP-GTK, the easiest way is to use PHP:
C:\php5>php -r "if (method_exists('GtkAlignment', 'set_padding')) echo
'true'";
true
C:\php5>php -r "print_r(get_class_methods('GtkAlignment'));"

There are a lot of layout options, including the obvious one of using Glade
to design your layout. Take a look at
http://cweiske.dyndns.org/en/html/tutorials/tutorials.html,
and you might
also find it helpful to flick through both manuals - there are short demo
scripts in a few places in the new manual (e.g.
http://cweiske.dyndns.org/en/html/gtk/gtk.gtkbox.method.pack_end.html,
http://cweiske.dyndns.org/en/html/gtk/gtk.gtkbox.method.pack_start.html),
and rather more in the old manual if you don't mind porting the code you
find there. There are also some demo scripts in the PHP-GTK 2 demos
directory (or in the test directory if you're using PHP-GTK 1).
