glade + combo box

I apologise if this is the wrong place for this question. What i am trying to do is be able to get the entry widget so as to get the text that it contains. I read somewhere that we have to code the combo box, and not able to use glade to put it into the interface. I want to be able to get the 3 variables login, password and supervisor and pass them to a fucntion that will log me into a database. At present i am able to get login and password. its just role that i cannot get to. I tried to set_name on the combo box, the list and the entry and I still get the following error when i run the script.
