The point is, you're doing it unilaterally. Please discuss this on the open mailing lists! (cc'd to php-gtk-webmaster and php-gtk-doc)

Indeed: Andrei's decision is why I host this on my own server, not on the yahoo server. And the very reason (AIUI: spam torrents) why Andrei doesn't want that on the yahoo server is also why it's no longer a wiki anyway, but reimported into a CMS with up-to-date access control and safety built in and kept up-to-date by a large team. And it will have all the wiki pages, that Andrei sent me, and which are full of valuable content that had been thrown away along with the (huge mass of) spam. I think important that this content come back online: it's very disappointing to any contributor who spent time polishing a contribution for a site to site it disappear uncredited and almost without an explanation: very destructive for the community, I'd say. Just like censoring small blogs from the wiki because they were insufficiently rich on php-gtk or not up-to-date, actually. This type of top-down, severely selective, method basically condemns the team to remains tiny because small or lower-level contributions cannot be accepted, and most newcomers will never overcome the first hurdles: only the best can partcipate, while in other, more successful, communities, just about anything goes, and the best float to the top, but anything can be useful and remains in sight and serves as a motivator for contributors. As you say, we're a group, so I've given you the information (your own wiki accounts have even been recreated, along all others, to maintain your credits: just ask me to unblock your id if you want to contribute too), and you can use it for what it is worth to build something greater. However, I think "we" are rather actually TWO groups, not just one: - on the one side, the *eleete* coders doing C stuff at the GTK level that gets into the core. About 5, I'd guess. - on the others, the others: the one who try to use the stuff, see what problems they have, and could do writeups at their own level, never even looking at the C-level sources but possibly contributing, tips, tricks, tutorials, themes, for all the other members in their group. About 6000 judging by some download stats, so probably over 100 actually eager to be part of a community that just isn't open enought at the moment. And I'm doing all this work for the second part: the main site is just good enough for anyone wishing to enter the first group. Actually, the only area on the main site that I think could just as well be on the one I'm doing is the two user guides. Although they're already very usable, they could be improved in legibility, simplicity, illustrations... and you needn't be a pro coder with a php.net account just to write doc. I'd even go as far as suggest it's a indrance because in that case you'd rather be coding. Regarding notes, if it's done as on PHP.net, don't you think it's rather terrible for a 21st century UI ? Or maybe it's something more current ? I've been reimporting the site content into a full-blown CMS, wiki included, so you needn't really code something specific.Frederic, hi, and huh? Look, we're a group! We work together, not in isolation. And Andrei has already said he's not willing to host the wiki in any form on the Yahoo! server again. The code for the notes has been in CVS for some months awaiting tests. Andrei tested it a couple of weeks ago and found the issues. I just needtofix those issues and switch on the notes via the admin interface. - Steph----- Original Message ----- From: "Steph Fox" <steph@zend.com> To: "Ryan Huff" <phporcaffeine@gmail.com>; <php-gtk-general@lists.php.net> Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2006 5:06 PM Subject: Re: [PHP-GTK] php-gtk web siteDoes anyone know when the notes system will be available on gtk.php.net?doesn'tI'll be doing it during the PHP conference, so long as ChristianThanks -ryantickle me! - Steph-- PHP-GTK General Mailing List (http://gtk.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
