Thanks for your pointer. I'll have a look at the PERL docs to see if the same cam be done with them. If anyone's interested, the two files that I used to parse the gtk.def file are below. Basically the first creates the menu items and the second creates the main file. (I piped the output to - firstly - php_gtk_functions.html and - secondly - to php-gtk-main.html, and then put them into a file with frames - php-gtk-doc.html.) What I was looking to do was to have a list of functions hot-linked to their description a la http://www.php.net. Once the functions were agreed upon, I was going to break the php-gtk-main.html file into individual files for each function and hopefully later again have a bulletin board function set up for user comments. Am I wasting my time. Anyway, here are the two PERL files for parsing the gtk.def file: php-gtk-function.pl: #! /usr/bin/perl $file='gtk.defs'; open(INFO,$file); @db=<INFO>; close(INFO); print "<html>\n<head>\n<title>PHP-GTK Functions</title>\n</head>\n<body background color = white>\n"; print "<h2>PHP GTK Functions</h2>\n"; foreach $row(@db){ chop $row; if($row=~/\bfunction\b/){ $row=~s/\(function //; print "<a href=\"php-gtk-main.html#".$row."\" target = 'main'>".$row."</a><br>\n"; } } print "<p><p><h2>PHP GTK Functions</h2>\n<br>"; print "===================================\n<br>"; foreach $row(@db){ # chop $row; if($row=~/\bobject\b/){ $row=~s/\(object //; print "<a href=\"php-gtk-main.html#".$row."\" target = 'main'>".$row."</a><br>\n"; } } print "</body>\n</html>\n"; php-gtk-main.pl: #! /usr/bin/perl $file='gtk.defs'; open(INFO,$file); @db=<INFO>; close(INFO); print "<html>\n<head>\n<title>PHP-GTK Functions</title>\n</head>\n<body>\n"; print "<h2>PHP GTK Functions</h2>\n"; foreach $row(@db){ chop $row; if($row=~/\bfunction\b/){ $row=~s/\(function //; $row="<a name =\"".$row."\"> (function ".$row."\n<br>"; print $row; } elsif($row ne ""){ print $row."<br>\n"; if($row=~/^\)/){ print "<br>\n================<p>\n"; } } } foreach $row(@db){ if($row=~/\bobject\b/){ $row=~s/\(object //; $row="<a name =\"".$row."\"> (object ".$row."\n<br>"; print $row; } elsif($row ne ""){ print "\t".$row."<br>\n"; if($row=~/^\)/){ print "<br>\n================<p>\n"; } } } print "</body>\n</html>\n"; Regards Martin Cameron GIOT Jean Philippe wrote: > I don't know how did you get it, but if you parsed it form source files, you could see > with gtk-perl documentation how they store informations and if possible to parse also their files > (or make db queries). > > it's told that both languages use gtk in the same way... perhaps it could be easier to > adapt perl doc instead of writing it from the begining... > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Martin Cameron <cameron@cameron.co.nz> > To: <php-gtk@lists.php.net> > Sent: Friday, March 16, 2001 7:00 AM > Subject: [PHP-GTK] Documentation - Wrong URL > > > The documentation URL should be > > http://casablanca.thenet.co.nz/php-gtk-doc.html > > > > Sorry forthe mistake > > > > regards > > Martin Cameron > > > > > > -- > > PHP GTK Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) > > To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-gtk-unsubscribe@lists.php.net > > For additional commands, e-mail: php-gtk-help@lists.php.net > > To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net > > _________________________________________________________ > > Do You Yahoo!? > > Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
