Error in make after configure apache ...

Hi,
I did all the requested :
cd "apachedir"
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache
cd "php4dir"
./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql\ --with-apache=/usr/local/apache_1.3.14 \
--enable-track-vars
make
make install
cd "apachedir"
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache \
--activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a
make
and then I got the following errors :
/usr/local/mysql/lib/libmysqlclient.a(mycompress.o):In function `my_uncompress':
my_compress.o(.text+0x12b): undefined reference to `uncompress'
collect 2: ld returned 1 exit status
make : *** [target_static] error 1
(...)
Can someone help me find out what s wrong with the mysqlclient.o ??
