static compile?

Is there a way to compile php into one static program? I know the
benefits and problems of doing it, but I am trying to compile it using
jpeg support and cannot get it to compile under UML(user mode linux).. I
have managed to get this copy of jpeg to compile and work under non
uml.
Also if I can do this, can I also make a static php work with the apache
dso module for this static php?
Ron
