problems using ./configure with PHP41

Hi all, I'm new to the list, so I hope you'll go easy on me. :-) Recently I bought PHP, fast and Easy Web Development, which starts by installing MYSQL, then Apache, and then PHP. MYSQL went fine. Apache went fine PHP didn't go fine. I went to configure PHP, I got an error, and it suggested looking at the debug.log file to see what the error was. I've included the contents of my command and the debug.log file below. The first thing I noticed was that there are several passes where there is a space in there: (/usr/local/mysql-3.22.32-pc-linux-gnu-i686//lib/mysql) and the actual error says "cannot find -lmysqlclient" That space would throw off the location fo the mysql directory, under lib, correct? Anyways, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
