Are you using mysql_pconnect() to connect to your MySQL server? If so, mysql_close() does not close
these types of connections.

Hi peoples,
I apologize if this is too off topic, but I have looked everywhere and I
dont know
where else to look.
I have a server running red hat linux 8.0 and the only services running
on it are ssh and MySQL. I have verious php scripts accessing the data on
this box's mysql databases.
My problem is that while my other 4 servers are fine, this server tends to
crash a lot. On the MySQL server I do a ps -aux and i see a lot of entries
like this:
mysql 926 0.1 1.2 269172 6472 ? S 09:42 0:01
/usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld --basedir=/usr/local/mysql --datadir=/usr/
after a reboot there are usually 5 of them. Over time they build up and
never go away.
I dont know if this is the problem but I was wondering if this was normal
mySQL behaviour.
I have looked through lots and lots of our php code and I have yet to find
anywhere where we dont close database calls after opening them. Of course,
this could have nothing to do with my mysql problem, but I am not sure where
else to look.
any ideas?
thank you very much!
