Problems with using SNMP

I'm having some issues trying to compile in SNMP support into PHP. I can compile any other module in no problem, but I can't get SNMP to work. I have installed the latest version of UCD-SNMP and even used the enabled ucd bug switch. I know that it's likely not finding an appropriate library, but I don't know which one. This is happening both on a FreeBSD box and a Solaris 2.6 box. Any ideas would be great.
