php on embedded system

Hi
I'm installing a WEB server (BOA) on an embedded system running on an
Motorola MPC860 processor. I want to use php on this server, but ran into
problems when running ./configure with something like the following:
CC=mpc_8xx-gcc ./configure --host=ppc-linux-gnu etc
Does anybody have done this with success ? or can I find it on a rpm
somewhere.
Or is it not a good idea to run php on a small system.
