Send-Mail bug in 4.0.4?

Mail, registration, and private messaging all throw an exception because of line 227 in includes/emailer.php: $result = @mail($to, $this->subject, preg_replace("#(?<!\r)\n#s", "\n", $this->msg), $this->extra_headers); Anybody have a fix for this? My "work around" is to comment out the message_die block, and things start working again.
