Hi.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that if a file is of the
type php then it is passed to the php interpreter if its not then its left
to the browser to make sense of whatever is given to it.
So in your case the file with the php suffix is handled by PHP and the
resultant code is sent back to the browser whereas the html page does not go
anywhere near the PHP engine and is therefore left to the browser to try and
interpret.
