From what I'm reading, I'ld guess your mysql client installation is currently broken too, but I could be wrong. Check if your current zlib (compression library) is installed, up2date, complete, etc. My guess is that 'mysql' (client) is broken too from what it depends on on my system: mfischer@ficken:/usr/include$ ldd which mysql|grep -i libz libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x400cc000) .. but I could be wrong.
