phplib problem in page.inc

i'm getting a odd error from phplib while trying to get horde/IMP
working. the horde test script shows the error:
+ Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in
/local/php/phplib/page.inc on line 68
this is occuring with PHP running as a DSO under both apache 1.3.12
and netscape iplanet v4.1sp1 on solaris 2.7. PHP compiles with no
errors, and has been compiled several times, but i can't seem to get
rid of this error. the web server gets restarted between changes to
PHP. the error occurrs on all clients that i've tried under both IE 5
and 5.5 and netscape 4.5x and 4.7x.
