Apache won't start?

Linux RH 6.2
Apache 1.3.17
php 4.0.2
MySQL 3.23
All compile without a hitch (that I can see).
When I start Apache I get the following error:
Syntax error on line 207 of /usr/local/apache_1.3.17/conf/httpd.conf
cannot load /usr/local/apache_1.3.17/libexec/libphp4.so into server: /usr/local/apache_1.3.17/libexec/libphp4.so: undefined symbol: uncompress
./bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
