Installing php3 on Sun with ibm httpd

Humble Greetings Oh thy all-mighty php-guru's. I'm trying to install php 3.0.15 on Sun 8 with IBM's somewhat (??) modified httpd (IBMHTTPD), and I'm having some trouble installing it. Obviously using php4 would probably work, but because of compapitibility-issues we need to use php3. The problem is , that after running ./configure --prefix=(blah/blah) --with-apxs=/usr/local/opt/IBMHTTPD/bin/apxs the configure script complains about a "broken apxs". The reccomended fixes from the PHP-FAQ about this error message didn't help (Probably as IBM seems to have completely changed the apxs around). I've also done some wild hacking and changing of syntax in the apxs file but that didn't wanna work either. Can someone help me out with this please ??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I'm in The Netherlands myself but if at all possible I'll get you a pizza or something ( As long as it doesn' t have ansjovis on it. I hate that. yech. Anything else is ok.
