a problem while running.

Sir, I have a problem out here. I have gone through the FAQ section in the site but am still not able to get any idea so as to clear my doubts. I have downloaded both the apache_1.3.14.tar.gz file and the php-4.0.1pl2.tar.gz file. I have unzipped,untarred and installed both the files in the same Unix machine in accordance with the instructions provided in the manual. The installation was successful without any errors. But I am not able to run any php program. How do I run a program. I tried it out by specifying the path in the browser but it was not successful. Please help me out.
