PHP-4.1.0 freetds apache

Any help appreciated. I am trying to connect to a 2000 server with mssql 7.0 from a linux7.2 box using freetds, php and apache. I have tried apache_1.3.22, php-4.1.0 (or php-4.0.6) and freetds-0.52. The worst part is that when I go to the web page I get no errors, it just stops loading. I searched the errorlogs and found nothing. I have also built in macromedia generator, mysql and mcrypt. Everything builds fine and runs fine except for connecting to the mssql server. I have followed the instructions from the last post at: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.mssql-connect.php by mazdak@actfit.com here are my config lines: php ./configure --with-apache=/config/apache_1.3.22 --with-mysql --enable-track-vars --with-mcrypt=/config/mcrypt-install --with-config-file-path=/config --with-mssql=/usr/local/ftds --with-sybase=/usr/local/ftds apache ./configure --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a --activate-module=src/modules/jrun/libjrun.a --enable-module=so --enable-module=expires --enable-module=headers --disable-module=userdir freetds ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/ftds --with-tdsver=7.0 --enable-dbmfix I have had this working before with much older versions of the apps. This is supposed to be an upgrade. Thanks for any ideas. Mitch
