Oracle install problems

I know this isn't the first time hearing this, but I haven't been able to
find an answer in anyone's threads anywhere.
Running RH 7.1. PHP4.1.1, Apache 1.3.22. Oracle client is 8.1.6/7 based.
perform the following:
./configure --with-mysql --with-oci8=/usr/local/oracle
--with-apache=../apache_1.3.22 --enable-track-vars
debug.log shows classic:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lclntsh
Debug.log attached.
I really need to get this running this week for a project.
What's wrong?
